Philadelphia 2019 winner, Flower, truss, or spray: Jackson McCarter  –  ‘Hachmann’s Charmant’

We encourage photographers to share their favorite photos, including those that have been previously entered in a convention or local show. Photographers are encouraged to consider the theme “Return to the Northwest” for their submissions.


Photo CONTEST

All entries must feature rhododendrons , azaleas, and/or vireyas in the composition as the main focus.

Contest Categories

  1. Flower, truss, or spray
  2. Landscape: plants in the wild or in a garden setting
  3. People, insects, or animals
  4. Foliage, bark, or seedpods

Contest Entries

  • Photo contestants are limited to a maximum of eight total entries and must fill out the Photo Contest Release Form.
  • Competition is open only to registered attendees of the ARS 2022 International Convention.
  • Entries for the Photo Show will be accepted from 8:00am to 10:00am and 8:00pm to 9:00pm on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 or by appointment. ujelang@gmail.com
  • Judging will by ballot of all registered attendees, a “People’s Choice” show. Voting results are final.
  • Judging will close Friday night at 10pm May 6, 2022.
  • Winners will be announced and Awards presented at the Saturday Banquet.
  • All entries must be picked up after the Banquet, Saturday evening May 7, 2022, or between 8:00am to 9:00am Sunday morning at registration on May 8, 2022. The committee will not be responsible for photographs that are left after the convention closes.

Rules for Contest Entries

  1. Photographs must be mounted on either solid backing or foam board no thicker than 1/4 inch or in 11/14 mat frames. The photographer ‘s name and category will be affixed on the back during the entry process.
  2. Photographs are not to exceed 12″ by 16″ in size including mounting. Frames, glass, canvas, or metal are not allowed.
  3. We realize that COVID may have curtailed photographic activities so there are no limitations on when a photograph was taken; and photographs which have won in regional or local competitions are also allowed, and so noted on the entry form.
  4. Photographs must occur naturally. Cropping and minor adjustments to exposure and color balance are permitted. Composites made with image editing software like Photoshop are not permitted.
  5. Entries previously submitted in past competitions, including prize winners, are eligible and should be so labeled.

Please email, prior to arrival, photo-show chairperson, David Anderson, ujelang@gmail.com high-resolution scans of your entries for use in slide show.

Note: Entrants submit their photos at their own risk.
